Das DAO ist das erste nach Sachgruppen geordnete Wörterbuch des Altokzitanischen. Es bietet gleichzeitig einen onomasiologischen Schlüssel zu den beiden großen altokzitanischen Wörterbüchern von Raynouard und Levy, über die es durch die Erschließung neuen umfangreichen Quellenmaterials hinausgeht. Das Wörterbuch gibt das gesamte Sprachsystem einer Epoche wieder: unter Berücksichtigung der mehrsprachigen Situation Südfrankreichs erfasst der DAO zusätzlich die mittellateinischen und regionalfranzösischen Idiome und bietet somit die vollständigste verfügbare Information zur gesamten linguistischen Situation im mittelalterlichen Südfrankreich.

The series aims to include and reflect current trends while providing groundbreaking impetus for the subject and its further development. The focus of the series is on synchronic linguistics and all of its facets. The series also includes works from pragmatics, computer linguistics and grammatical theory, as well as from sociolinguistics, research in technical language, and text linguistics. Innovation, transdisciplinarity and qualitative excellence are the guidelines for the series. In the Coptic Church, numerous pictorial representations with Christian content attest their deep significance for the Coptic faith. In order to give expression to individual motifs, individual passages from various texts were transformed into works of representational art, and thus specific forms of representation were created. This study brings together for the first time in a monograph the iconographies of twelve monks and martyrs in Egypt and also the hagiographic textual sources that were determinative for their representational images. Furthermore, new identifications, corrections, and reconstructions are offered, and the iconographic variants that are found in icons of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries are described. In this way, questions about the “word in pictures” and the relationship between Coptic hagiography and Coptic art can be given a copious answer.
