Auch neuere pragmatisch orientierte Ansätze zur Informationsstruktur greifen für die Explikation der Satztopik-Kategorie auf die traditionelle Unterscheidung von Satzgegenstand und Satzaussage zurück und deuten das Satztopik - unter Rückgriff auf bestimmte kognitive und kommunikative Strukturierungsprinzipien - als Bestandteil der sogenannten Aboutness-Relation: Prädizierende Sätze lassen sich aufgliedern in dasjenige, worüber etwas ausgesagt wird und dasjenige, was darüber ausgesagt wird. Ausgehend von der These, dass es im Deutschen keine explizit ausgewiesene syntaktische Position für Satztopiks gibt, geht diese Arbeit der Frage nach, welche diskursiven Bedingungen für die Aboutness-Relation vorausgesetzt sein müssen und über welche Eigenschaften Diskursreferenten mit Topikstatus verfügen.
