This study is concerned with the significance of medieval architectural form, dealing with assertions made possible by erecting an ambulatory with radiating chapels (c.11 – c. 12). It assumes that works of architecture are more determined by the significance their builders assigned them rather than by functional needs. The study presents a method to reconstruct this "message" of a building as intended by the patron and the artists and as perceived by the contemporary spectators.
