Semprún is a leading writer from the first generation of Spanish Civil War exiles. This book provides a global view of his œuvre and analyses texts that have received little critical attention, investigating the role played by memory and drawing on current debates in the field of memory studies.

This collection of essays focuses on the variety of women’s life-writing in the Luso-Hispanic world. The authors analyse women who have expressed their sense of identity through diaries, autobiographies, biographies, memoirs, travel writing and poetry, as well as forms of visual art, examining how they represent themselves and others.

This series publishes titles from any area of Iberian and Latin American Studies that explore issues relating to questions of identity. Ideas and concepts of identity can be explored at various levels, ranging from the individual to the national or international, and in different media. Proposals are welcome in the following cultural field: The history of ideas, literature, performance, cinema, art and photography, nationhood, exile, memory, and gender.
