The South Tyrolean knight Oswald von Wolkenstein (ca. 1377-1445) is the most notable German lyricist of the late Middle Ages. The present volume contains 25 articles in total, which have been compiled from the presentations at a great conference held by the Oswald von Wolkenstein society in Brixen in 2012. The authors are a mixture of renouned and younger Germanists and musicologists. The papers reveal diverse perspectives from which researchers are investigating the songs of Oswald today. Die im bayerisch-österreichischen Sprachraum entstandene »Weltchronik« Heinrichs von München ist eines der ehrgeizigsten volkssprachigen Buchprojekte des 14. Jahrhunderts: Eine gewaltige Summe des Geschichts- und Bibelwissens mit dem Ziel, die Weltgeschichte von der Schöpfung bis in die Zeit Karls des Großen, in späteren Fassungen auch bis zur damaligen Gegenwart möglichst ausführlich und vollständig in Versen darzustellen. Versuche, das ursprünglich heils- und profangeschichtliche Wissen als Ganzes darzustellen, gab es bereits früher; gelungen ist dies erstmals Heinrich von München. Für die Realisierung wurde eine Vielzahl von Quellen verarbeitet. Gleich nach ihrer Entstehung wurde die »Weltchronik« indes wiederholt überarbeitet: Es wurde gekürzt und erweitert, ersetzt und korrigiert. Das Ergebnis sind verschiedene, teilweise erheblich voneinander abweichende Fassungen. Das vorliegende fünfbändige Werk klärt die Zusammenhänge zwischen den unterschiedlichen Fassungen, in denen die »Weltchronik« überliefert ist. Der erste Band des Werkes enthält eine Darstellung der Zusammenhänge zwischen den verschiedenen mittelalterlichen Weltchroniken, Handschriftenbeschreibungen, einen Forschungsbericht, sowie Untersuchungen einzelner Teile mit Textabdrucken. Die Bände 2 und 3 stellen die Textgeschichte der Weltchronik Heinrichs von München im Detail dar und liefern weitere, sehr ausführliche Textabdrucke aus der bis jetzt als Ganzes unedierten Chronik.

The poet known in tradition as Master Alexander or Wild Alexander was probably active from around 1250 as the author of minstrel songs, sacred songs, chants and a Minneleich. He is considered one of the most important song poets of the post-classical 13th century. He is particularly famous for his text, known as the Childhood Song, which is characterised by extraordinary allegorical imagery. The melodies for most of the texts have also survived. The new edition replaces older edition attempts. For the first time, it offers not only the texts but also the melodies in a critical edition, as well as translations into Modern High German and a detailed commentary.
