Each of the three volumes of the Handbook of Prussian History opens with chronological sections giving an overview of a period of Prussian history. These are followed by chapters arranged thematically to discuss major topics in the history of Brandenburg-Prussia and of German history for the whole period from the middle of the 17th century to the middle of the 20th century. The handbook provides information on military and economic history, the history of education and the Church, the history of the Jewish faith community and - as special topics - the history of Prussian-Polish relations and the role of Berlin as a capital city. The editors and contributors are concerned not least to clarify the position and significance of Prussia in the framework of German and European history in the various fields of society and the economy, law and culture, politics and warfare, and in foreign and international relations.
