The series Studia Linguistica Germanica, founded in 1968 by Ludwig Erich Schmitt and Stefan Sonderegger, is one of the standard publication organs for German Linguistics.  The series aims to cover the whole spectrum of the subject, while concentrating on questions relating to language history and the history of linguistic ideas.  It includes works on the historical grammar and semantics of German, on the relationship of language and culture, on the history of language theory, on dialectology, on lexicology / lexicography, text linguistics and on the location of German in the European linguistic context. 

The Handbooks of Applied Linguistics provide a state-of-the-art description of established and emerging areas of Applied Linguistics. Each volume gives an overview of the field, explains the most important traditions and their findings, identifies the gaps in current research, and gives perspectives for future directions.

The new series Linguistik Impulse & Tendenzen is intended to be an attractive forum for high-quality studies in German linguistics. The series aims to include and reflect current trends while providing groundbreaking impetus for the subject and its further development. The focus of the series is on synchronic linguistics and all of its facets. The series also includes works from pragmatics, computer linguistics and grammatical theory, as well as from sociolinguistics, research in technical language, and text linguistics. Innovation, transdisciplinarity and qualitative excellence are the guidelines for the series. The linguae& litterae series, edited by Peter Auer, Gesa von Essen and Werner Frick, documents the research activities of the School of Languageand Literature of the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS). These research activities in literary studies and linguistics are characterized by an approach that is theoretically and methodologically “state of the art” and interdisciplinarily open. In linguistics the accent is on the corpus-based, quantitative and qualitative investigation of language; in literary studies the focus is on the comparative, transdisciplinary analysis of literary phenomena in their cultural contexts. At the same time the series deals with the productive interfaces and synergies between modern linguistics and literary studies (as well as the humanities, social and natural sciences with which they interact). It seeks a new, contemporary reformulation of the humanities research curriculum and its problem and concept orientation for the future.
