Alexander von Humboldts Klimatologie in der Zirkulation von Wissen

Historisch-kritische Edition der Berliner Briefe (1830-1859) und ihre Kontexte.

Produktform: Buch / Einband - flex.(Paperback)

This dissertation is a historical-critical edition of all surviving letters, fragments of letters and related documents which Alexander von Humboldt exchanged with the Berliners Heinrich Wilhelm Dove, Carl Ferdinand Schneider and Jakob Philipp Wolfers on the themes of meteorology and climatology between 1830 and 1859. All surviving replies are also included. This edition fills another significant historical gap in the series of Humboldt editions. The documents are revelatory for several reasons. First, because they document the beginnings of modern climatology. But also because they offer a recognisable example of Humboldt’s interdisciplinary research and his work with different institutions. Finally, the material collected and interpreted here forms part of the key preliminary work on Kosmos and other writings insofar as they deal with the themes of weather and climate. A detailed overview and commentary sets all the texts in their broad historical contexts.weiterlesen
