Ancient Egypt 2021
Perspectives of Research
Produktform: Buch / Einband - fest (Hardcover)
The volume, whose editing saw the cooperation of Italian and Polish Egyptologists, presents a series of sixteen papers devoted to exploring various aspects of current research trends in the Egyptological field. These papers were written both by renowned and young scholars, but they all present state-of-the-art research methods applied to a variety of topics: Egyptomania in the 19th-century art of Trieste (Italy) as well as in Hungary; history of Egyptology in Poland (featuring a very interesting travel diary by Juliusz Słowacki) and in Portugal; ancient Egyptian architecture and archaeology (texts about the function of palm columns, the reuse of monuments during the Late Period, and the diffusion of Egyptian carnelian in the Mediterranean); and texts and religion, studying how the god Ha appeared on Middle Kingdoms coffins, what was the meaning of the “numbering the fingers” spell from the Pyramid Texts, analyzing the iconographical motif of punishment in the Old Kingdom, and exploring the possible location of the “Land of the Sand-dwellers”. Other papers include the presentation of objects from collections (shabtis in Ukraine and amulets in Bucharest), chronological studies on Ramses IV’s “Great Abydos Stela”, and the application of new technologies to Egyptology, such as the 3D reconstruction of a residence in ‘Ezbet Helmi. One last paper, finally, is devoted to the very current issue of the protection of Egyptian cultural heritage from a legal point of view.
Most of these topics had been presented, in their initial stage, during the IX ECE – Ninth European Conference of Egyptologists in 2021, being part of the series of European meetings initiated in Warsaw in 1999.weiterlesen
