Sara Uribe’s Antígona González is a stunning book-length work addressing the mass violence and disappearances across northern Mexico, using Sophocles’ heroine Antigone as a figure through which a collective voice of (mostly feminist) resistance speaks out in both pain and protest. Using documentary materials, personal testimonies, and other source texts, Uribe constructs a telling that stands as one of the most powerful books I’ve read in years.
