Archäologie in Lübeck 2019
Produktform: Buch / Einband - flex.(Paperback)
This volume, for the year 2019, is the first issue of the journal “Archaeology in Lübeck”, a new series that will serve as an annual publication for the Archaeology section of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck and report on the most significant excavations, results, current projects and research. In a large format and with colour images, this new series of yearly publications provides insights into our fascinating archaeological investigations, covering a range of topics from the medieval city to the prehistoric Baltic coast.
We present excavations from within the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck, as well as from the rural areas surrounding the city – and covering all periods from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages and Early Modern times. In 2019, outstanding archaeological excavations were for example carried out in a medieval quarter in the Fischstraße and along the Ellerbrook, which harboured traders and brewers. They have provided new insights into urbanisation processes in the northern part of the old town. In addition, the first large-scale excavations in the village of Kronsforde, which still preserves its characteristic Rundling structure, have been carried out. From flint axes to early modern wooden trackways, these investigations have yielded traces of a long settlement tradition which could be investigated for the first time. Further current work that deserves highlighting includes research on the Lübeck synagogue, which developed from a knightly residence to a prayer house. Another contribution covers paternoster beads from Lübeck’s old town, made from amber, the gold of the Baltic.weiterlesen
