The transformative architecture has turned the self-contained former fortress into an open space and a setting for cultural participation. Walls that had enclosed the grounds for centuries were opened up; flowing sequences of interior and exterior spaces that merge into one another, playful spatial interventions, and communication areas were created. This volume comprehensively presents this exceptional project, illustrating in particular the development process and the involvement of various planning partners.
