This study deals with the 'aryanisation' of Austrian pharmacies during the NS regime, the restitution of these businesses after 1945 and the fate of Jewish proprietors of Austrian pharmacies persecuted by the Nazis. Beginning with the Pharmacy Act of 1907, the book explains the legal framework and particularities of Austrian pharmacies as well as the status of Jewish pharmacists in the profession in Austria from 1860 until the Anschluss in 1938. The author names the actors involved in 'aryanisation' and their Jewish victims, and reconstructs the procedures of 'aryanisation' and restitution after 1945. He also traces the pathways of the Austrian pharmacists forced to emigrate after the Anschluss and charts the fate of those who could not flee from Nazi persecution and were murdered.weiterlesen
