Astrid Lindgren (1907-2002) is considered a titan of Swedish literature. She is best known as a writer of children’s fiction, having created several book series of significant worldwide reach. Some of her works include Pippi Longstocking, Emil of Lönneberga, the children’s fantasy novels Ronia the Robber’s Daughter and The Brothers Lionheart, all of which have been adapted into successful film series.
She grew up in the small village of Vimmerby in Småland in southern Sweden. A voracious reader and writer at an early age, Lindgren had her first essay published in the local newspaper at the mere age of 13. In her long and illustrious career, Lindgren wrote more than 30 children’s novels. Her works have sold more than 160 million books worldwide and she remains one of the world’s most translated writers of children’s fiction. In Sweden today, an entire universe consisting of Lindgren’s literary world, exists in numerous forms, not least in ‘Astrid Lindgren’s World’, a theme park in her hometown of Vimmerby, as well as in Junibacken in Stockholm, a children’s cultural centre with books at it’s hearts.
The conception and design behind our bookends stem from Swedish renowned industrial designer, Jan Landqvist and are made in the small town of Gnosjö in the south of Sweden.weiterlesen
