Although new valve materials andproduction techniques are constantly being developed, theseadvances have been outpaced by demands for increased engineperformance. The drive for reduced oil consumption and exhaustemissions, use of lead-replacement and low-sulphur fuels, and the introduction ofalternative fuels such as gas all have implications for valve andseat insert wear.
