Der vorliegende Band bietet ein Auswahl von Beiträgen, die im Oktober 2007 auf der 2. Internationalen Bantu-Konferenz an der Universität Göteborg / Schweden gehalten wurden. Diese Tagung war ein gut besuchtes Zusammentreffen von Bantuisten und Bantu-Sprachexperten von vier Kontinenten. Das Werk bietet eine breite Auswahl an einschlägigen Themen im Bereich der Bantuistik und deckt damit viele der geografischen Gebiete des subsaharischen Afrika, in denen Bantusprachen vertreten sind, ab. Schwerpunktmäßig sind dies jedoch Tansania und die ostafrikanische Region. Thematisch wird allen linguistischen Fachrichtungen, die Soziolinguistik ausgenommen, Beachtung geschenkt.
