This book establishes the role of the French writer Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867) in the formation of poetics of modernity in Italy between 1857, the year of publication of Baudelaire’s highly-influential verse collection, and 1912, when the first anthology of Futurist poetry, , was published in Milan. While focusing primarily on Baudelaire’s influence on the poetry of the Italian Scapigliatura, a long-underrated movement which in the 1860s and ‘70s promoted unconventional artistic ideas, this monograph also investigates Baudelaire’s and Scapigliatura’s interrelated impacts on Futurism, re-evaluating their importance in Italian literary and cultural history.weiterlesen
