The present publication honors the award-winner (b. 1926 in Los Angeles), who examines the Afro-American history of the USA in her diverse work. Since 1994, the prize has been awarded annually to an extraordinary, internationally renowned artist who is not yet as well known in Germany as he or she deserves to be.
