Biomolecules

From Genes to Proteins

Produktform: E-Buch Text Elektronisches Buch in proprietärem

The objective of this work is to make students familiar with the fascinating chemistry of biomolecules, their significant features, and crucial role in biological processes. Through this work, they will also develop a core knowledge and understanding of various biochemical pathways in the context of chemical principles. This book will help to broaden the knowledge of the students in the subject in which they are marginally informed. Unit-I starts with the introduction of nucleic acids, their components, structures of nucleosides and nucleotides, and Watson-Crick Model of DNA. Biological roles of DNA and RNA will also be discussed followed by replication, transcription and translation. Unit-II describes the amino acids, their classification, zwitterions, and their properties. Synthesis of peptides, their structures, and denaturation of proteins will also be taken up in unit-II. The next unit, that is, Unit-III focuses on the nomenclature, classification and characterization of enzymes. Mechanism of enzyme action, roles of various coenzymes, and cofactors will also be discussed in this unit. Unit-IV will have detailed discussion on carbohydrates, their biological roles, structure elucidation of disaccharides and significance of various polysaccharides. This unit will also highlight the importance of lipids, their classification, and underlying applications. The various metabolic pathways, their regulation and energy production from biochemical processes will be taken up in the last unit of the book. Glycolysis, alcoholic and lactic acid fermentation, and Krebs cycle will also be covered in unit-V. weiterlesen
