Campus Cinephilia in Neoliberal South Korea

Produktform: Buch / Einband - fest (Hardcover)

This book draws on conversations and interviews with university film club members as excellent representatives of film culture, as they are the most voracious and highly literate consumers of film in South Korea. This book is an ethnographic study of college student film fans in South Korea. While much of the existing academic research on South Korean cinema centers on the history of the nation’s film industry or the textual analysis of its films, this book examines youth audiences. It explores South Korean cinephilia through an examination of the film consumption practices of young people in their twenties, the demographic that represents the country’s most active consumers of film. The book canvasses student enthusiasts’ tastes and appetite for local and international films to argue that they are cosmopolitan consumers of film whose engagement with cinema has been influenced by the rise of global neoliberalism.weiterlesen
