Creative Ways to apply Historical GIS

Promoting Research and eLearning About Europe

Produktform: Buch / Einband - fest (Hardcover)

This volume promotes the use of Historical GIS (H-GIS) within the fields of education and research. It consists of a coherent set of chapters and Electronic Supplementary Material (ESM) which will be used to develop each of the proposed themes. The ESM will be formed by new GISs on each subject, in addition to data, material in .pdf format, and anything else necessary for the work of students, teachers and researchers. Globally speaking, this book is designed for use by both presential classes and online education and training. The book offers a series of significant case studies associated with the H-GIS. To date, there are no similar materials available in this field compiled in a single book, with the dual objective of promoting research and education. The approach consists of using H-GISs for an interdisciplinary treatment of the problems studied, combining inputs relating to the study of earth sciences, population, urban growth and transportation, focusing on changes over both space and time. Each chapter provides data in GIS format and also a user's guide to enable the reader to work with the contents in an autonomous way. Guidelines are provided to help locate new data about other areas of the world, which users will be able to develop independently. Both the guide and the data are available on link.springer.com as ESM to accompany the book. The book is divided into three parts, each presenting different scales of study and analysis at the local, regional and national levels. Part 1 deals with general subjects analysed across large areas, mainly within Europe. Part 2 provides more specific subjects and data. Part 3 covers sources and teaching with H-GIS. The book will be of interest to researchers, academics, teachers and students (from secondary schools up to university level). Each subject and tutorial is aimed at a multi-level audience.weiterlesen
