Thomas Schönauer (1953) is a Düsseldorf artist with an international reputation. His works and sculptures can be found in collections and in public places worldwide, from Rio de Janeiro to Dubai, from Hamburg to New York. He is the master of steel. Between 1974 and 1978, Schönauer studied German, Romance studies and philosophy at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf. From 1975 to 1978 he was also an assistant in Friederich Werthmann's sculpture studio in Düsseldorf. He intensified his art studies through a stay at the Manitoba Institute of Design, Winnipeg, Canada and close contact with the Düsseldorf Art Academy and its personalities. He has had his own studio in Düsseldorf since 1978. In 2011, Schönauer was appointed to the design advisory board of the University Hospital in Düsseldorf.
