DECOR is the first series that deals with decorative phenomena defined in a comprehensive way. It will move away from analyses of single decorative elements in isolation and focus on their spatial-architectural and visual correlation and interaction. This entails that the studies will not only analyse images, but also ornamental forms of decor. As such, investigations will discuss the visual relationship of decorative elements with differing levels of associated semantics. These elements will be assessed precisely with regard to their spatial setting. The series will thus provide new analyses of image-spaces, or rather decor-spaces. In this way, the viewer and his or her perceptual attitudes come to the fore as well. The geographical focus is on Italy, the chronological framework ranges from the 2nd century B.C. to the end of the Early Imperial period in the late 1st century A.D. This period saw profound political and social upheavals but also fundamental changes of decorative principles, providing thus an ideal starting point for analyses of the relationships between changing forms of action and experience and changes in strategies of decor. weiterlesen
