Der Dürrnberg bei Hallein
Die Gräbergruppe am Steigerhaushügel
Produktform: Buch / Einband - fest (Hardcover)
By presenting the group of graves from the Steigerhaushügel, the 13th volume in the series of Dürrnberg research closes yet another gap in our knowledge of burials from the Dürrnberg, which have by now been published to a large extent. The area was investigated in 1977 and 1978 and is a relatively small, but topographically well-defined burial site with 6 mounds and a flat grave, yielding 28 individuals in total. As far as the extensive disturbances allow an assessment, the Steigerhaushügel saw multiple burials in multi-phase chambers covered by a mound, as is typical for the Dürrnberg. The only exception is the flat grave of a young child. All burials are inhumations, there are no cremation burials. The long period of use from Lt A to Lt C, together with some exceptional grave goods, underscores the importance of this grave group. Amongst the grave goods are food, drink and slashing knives, as well as costume elements. The large proportion of burials with weapons is remarkable. The present volume begins with a presentation of research history, the topographical situation and remarks on methodology, before turning to an interdisciplinary presentation of the excavation results and material culture, as well as the anthropological and archaeozoological data, included in catalogue form. Finally, anthropological, archaeozoological and archaeological results are discussed together.weiterlesen
