In 35 samples from Gambia and Senegal 1972, among which 20 are proper littoral and at least 5 proper freshwater samples, a total of 71 diatom genera is recorded, represented by 338 taxa, Viz. 177 polyhalobe, 55 mesohalobe and 106 oligohalobe species.
