The history of the Kraichgau – a region between the Black Forest and the Forest of Odes – was greatly influenced by the Kraichgau Knights. This applies to almost all of the important sectors: the territorial development and the confessional split in the wake of the Reformation as well as cultural development. The leaning towards a cooperative union was of particular interest – this constituted the Kraichgau Knight canton. These efforts were in a constant conflict with the simultaneous longing for independence.
