Volume II of Edward Sapir’s Collected Works contains the re-edition of Sapir’s classic introduction to linguistics, Language (1921), enlarged with a new index, and some twenty-five articles, published between 1908 and 1939, in general, comparative and descriptive linguistics, including his publications on the African language Gweabo, on Judeo-German, and on English grammar. The majority of the articles are in the field of historical-comparative linguistics, dealing with ancient Indo-European languages such as Sanskrit, Hittite and Tocharian, and with Northwest Semitic languages (Ugaritic, Phoenician and Hebrew).
