This book explores similarities and differences among national election systems worldwide and sheds light on how election systems are susceptible to gerrymandering for the benefit of political parties, party leaders, and incumbent politicians. A gerrymander is a manipulation of electoral districts by which an incumbent or a political party attempts to use the reallocation of seats or redrawing of electoral district boundaries, or the failure to do so, for their own advantage. Research for the book found that some of the worst manipulation of the election systems occurs in the oldest established democracies.
