European Dispute over the Concept of Man
A Study in Political Anthropology
Produktform: E-Buch Text Elektronisches Buch in proprietärem
The book is an original research work in the field of study rarely pursued in the analysis of intellectual dimensions of political and axiological disputes held in the European Union. These disputes are generally analysed at ideological, ethical, economic and interstate level. However, these references do not suffice to understand the essence of the issue, which concern divergent understanding of the essence of humanity and thus the subject matter of anthropology. The main research objective of the monograph is then to reconstruct the sources and the way of thinking about the human being specific for the European Union. At the theoretical level the book puts forward a definition of the concept of political anthropology, drawing on political science principles and an anthropological analysis of the EU’s axiology. At the empirical level, it provides an analysis of the anthropological features of the EU’s institutions and reveals the anthropological orientation of its policies, as well as the relation between the axiological and anthropological positions of the main national groups within the EU. Moreover, at the methodological level, it proposes a range of suitable instruments for pursuing anthropological research in the area of political science.
