Als Warren Fischer und Casey Spooner ihr Kunst-, Musik-, und Performanceprojekt FISCHERSPOONER 1998 in New York ins Leben riefen, hatten sie eine Mission: Die zugeknöpfte, elitäre Kunstszene sollte offener und zugänglicher werden. Der Erfolg ließ nicht lange auf sich warten: Nach ihren ersten, orgiastisch-opulenten Performances wie etwa im MoMA PS1 waren sie aus der Kunstszene der Stadt nicht mehr wegzudenken. Mit ihrem Song Emerge landeten Fischerspooner 2002 sogar in der Britischen Top 40-Hitparade und auf der Bühne der Kultsendung Top of the Pops. Mit Sir präsentieren FISCHERSPOONER ihr queer-lustvolles Universum erstmals im mumok. In einer Rauminstallation empfinden die beiden Künstler das New Yorker Apartment von Casey Spooner nach und werfen damit Fragen der Grenzziehung zwischen privatem und öffentlichem Raum auf. Thematisiert wird das konstante Mitteilungsbedürfnis des eigenen Lebens – ein Phänomen unserer Zeit, das den persönlichen Raum immer mehr zu einem performativen und öffentlichen werden lässt. Bei der Installation handelt es sich um eine künstlerische Fortführung des vierten Albumprojektes von FISCHERSPOONER. Das ebenfalls unter dem Titel Sir veröffentlichte Werk wurde von Michael Stipe (R.E.M.) produziert und thematisiert das Verschwimmen der Grenzen zwischen dem inneren und dem äußeren sozialen Selbst. With their show Sir FISCHERSPOONER presents their own queer-lustrous and passionate universe for the first time at mumok. A site-specific installation remodels Casey Spooner’s New York apartment, thus raising questions as to the collapse of private and public space, and addressing our need for constant broadcasting of our lives and experience—a phenomenon of our age that is transforming personal space more and more into performative and public space. The installation is an artistic extension of FISCHERSPOONER’s fourth album project, also entitled Sir.
