As for Rickert's dissertation, I think the most interesting aspect of it is that it develops in nuce the method of so-called heterology characterizing much of his later work. He criticizes the classical approach to definition through genus proximum and differentia specifica　　because it makes it hard to define complex wholes for which we cannot readily provide an overriding genus and introduces the method of 'complementary' or ergänzende definitions. As with all his works, he added a lot in subsequent editions, but unfortunately I only read the earliest edition. I have no doubt that later editions will be even more interesting as he attempts to link his theory of definition to the rest of his work.　 weiterlesen
