With the work he has developed since the mid-1990s, Herbert Hinteregger has gained an important international position in the field of abstract painting. Characteristic of his artworks is their ability to be interpreted as a bridge between the principle of reduction and the principle of the additive in the further development of abstraction. Considering the way his paintings increasingly expand into the space, one can talk of him turning towards expansive abstraction. […] The exhibition Untitled (Flow) is the culmination of his book of the same name, published in 2017, and is concurrently the prelude to this volume, which documents the exhibitions Hinteregger has conceptualized since then. The new book presents a fascinating series of installations, which increasingly question the autonomy of the abstract painting, integrate the paintings into partly radical spatial concepts or translate them directly into spatial drawings.
