Hokuriku
New Japanese Lacquer Art
Produktform: Buch / Einband - fest (Hardcover)
The catalog for the special exhibition shown at the Museum of Lacquer Art in 2023 presents selected objects by eight lacquer artists from Hokuriku, a region of Japan's main island of Honshū facing the Sea of Japan. The area is considered one of the most important lacquer centers in Japan and is known for its exceptional craft traditions that grew out of the activities of the Osaikusho workshops of the Kaga domain during the Edo period (1603-1868).
The artists presented in the catalog and the exhibition learned the lacquer craft at the highest level under the guidance of the best in their field, and acquired the production of lacquer objects through several years of training. After their training, they experienced intensive encouragement through admission to the renowned institute for arts and crafts in Kanazawa, the Utatsuyama Kōgei Kōbō, and today are among the most innovative and recognized artists in Japan. All of them shape an independent style, sometimes completely detached from the traditional forms and motifs of Japanese lacquer art.weiterlesen
