Interreligious Relations and the Negotiation of Ritual Boundaries
Explorations in Inter-rituality
Produktform: Buch / Einband - fest (Hardcover)
Interreligious studies is a relatively new and growing academic field in which scholars explore the dynamic encounters between religions, drawing upon theology, political sciences, psychology, sociology, and pedagogy of religion. This edited volume adds to the ongoing diversification of interreligious studies by drawing attention to the ritual dimension of interreligious encounters. Authors use the concept of interrituality to refer to the way(s) that interreligious encounters are concretized in the performance of embodied ritualized practices. The concept of interrituality is used to describe rituals that happen in the space between people who believe and practice differently. Each chapter focuses on particular cases of interrituality (mourning rituals, prayers, reading, reconciliatory rituals) in different locations, involving different agents (policy makers, monks, scholars, ordinary people, political activists, families), in different spaces (monasteries, public spaces, museums, homes).
