Josef Bauer. Demonstration
Ausst. Kat. Belvedere 21, Wien 2019
Produktform: Buch / Einband - flex.(Paperback)
Josef Bauer has been a key protagonist of conceptual art in Austria since the 1960s. In proximity to the Wiener Gruppe with the poets Gerhard Rühm, Friedrich Achleitner and Oswald Wiener, he developed a sculptural language that connects the body and the object. His installations, paintings, objects, performance photographs and what he calls “tactile poetry” always orbit around the question of what is articulated by art and how, and how text, image and typeface can be merged together into a common language. The dual meaning of the title Demonstration refers on one hand to the gesture of presenting, on the other to the expression of political protest—two themes that play crucial roles in Bauer’s work.
