The German Kaiser’s “Mounted Police for German Southwest Africa” was founded in 1905, after the predecessor consisting of private and military policemen proved to have little success. But because of the emerging war against the Herero and Nama (1904–1907), the plans were never completely realized, and in the end began to take form only in 1907, with the direct recruitment of personnel and the expansion of a network of police stations. The “Central Police” force, similar to its role in the German Reich, had the usual role of policing public life as well as enforcing the so-called “Aboriginal Legislation” along with issuing passports and controlling the registration of citizens and their work permits.weiterlesen
