The activity profiles in technology-oriented sectors are changing: In addition to specialist knowledge, communicative-social competences and customer-facing abilities are increasingly sought after. The author provides a definition for customer orientation in her dissertation, followed by an analysis of the tasks involved for various types of customer orientation on the sample profession "wastewater technician". The comparison of current training guidelines and training reality clearly shows the development potential for social-communicative knowledge.
