Lope de Vega’s 'Jerusalén conquistada' and Torquato Tasso’s 'Gerusalemme liberata': face to face

Produktform: Buch / Einband - fest (Hardcover)

In spite of dealing with the same subject (the Crusades) and the same geographic places (Palestine and the Holy City) Gariolo demonstrate that Lope’s was never a menial imitation, as occurred with other Spanish imitators of Tasso. During the period of the Renaissance, the imitation of classical models (and the Italian masterpieces were considered models) was not only permitted, but almost demanded. Thus, Lope, even in imitating, innovated artistically and created new elements for Spanish epic poetry of the Golden Age.weiterlesen
