Prior to the release of Salesforce DX in late 2017, it was not possible to have a true DevOps workflow on Salesforce. For all of the power and effectiveness of the platform, Salesforce deployments were notoriously painful. Salesforce DX finally provides the raw capabilities to enable a DevOps workflow, but it alone does not provide a complete picture of how to bring all of these capabilities together.
