This book provides a systematic account of media and communication development in Soviet society from the October Revolution to the death of Stalin. Summarizing earlier research and relying upon previously unpublished archival materials, covers main aspects of public and private interaction in the Soviet Union from public broadcast to kitchen gossip. The volume begins with the introduction relating Soviet society in general to its communicative system. Its first part covers visual, auditory and tactile (represented by posters, maps, monuments, handshakes, etc.). The subsequent part deals with from private body to electrical signalling, featuring, among other vehicles, public gatherings, personal letters, telegraph, telephone, film and radio.
