'Hello, my name is Chandra,' says the little elephant. 'I have an Indian name, because I’m an Indian elephant,' it trumpets proudly. Little Chandra, who is standing in front of the elephant enclosure, answers: 'I’m also called Chandra. But unlike you, I was born in India, where my father was studying elephants!' On May 13, 2002 an elephant baby was born in the Zurich Zoo. She was given the name Chandra, which means 'Moon' or 'The Shining one' in Hindu. This event inspired the renowned Swiss wine author Chandra Kurt to write a story. She herself was born in Sri Lanka as the daughter of an elephant researcher.
