New Advances in Legal Translation and Interpreting
Produktform: Buch / Einband - fest (Hardcover)
This book describes interdisciplinary exploration of matters related to the translation of legal texts. Translation of legal texts has grown exponentially since the beginning of new millennium in response to the fast increasing volume of international trade and business as well as all sorts of other transnational activities in a myriad of spheres. International trade demands translation of trade laws and business contracts, immigration leads to rise in court interpreting services, and countries may seek to enhance their international influence through translating and making known to the world their laws and/or other legal documents. On the other hand, rapid advances in computer technology and artificial intelligence in recent years have also brought about changes in the practices of legal translation. With changes also come problems in both theory and practice that merit our immediate attention. Yet research on legal translation seems to have not been able to abreast with the changes in the practice of legal translation, and many issues still await in-depth and thorough investigation. Today, other than the few classic texts on legal translation, e.g., Šarcevic (1997), little new research has been published to reflect the problems and challenges that many translators of legal texts and teachers of legal translation are facing today. The present book of chapters is proposed to account for the possible difficulties and possible solutions that many translators of legal text are confronted with today. Legal translation here is taken to mean both translation and interpreting of legal texts and discourses. And legal texts are understood broadly to include all and any kind of texts relating to law and legal affairs, such as statute laws, business contracts, legal proceedings, and so on. The proposed book aims to highlight the newest developments in the theory, practice, and training of legal translation, with contributions from international leading researcher in this area. The book aims to be a standard reference for anyone who is to embark on research and practice of legal translation in the twenty-first century. It is also adaptable as teaching materials for translation and interpreting training.
