Parallel high-performance simulation of liquid-gas-solid flows with the free-surface lattice Boltzmann method

Produktform: Buch / Einband - fest (Hardcover)

This thesis develops an approach for efficient and large-scale numerical simulations of liquid-gas-solid flows, specifically focusing on the accurate and numerically stable representation of the liquid-gas interactions. The model is built upon the free-surface lattice Boltzmann method, a modern and efficient technique for the numerical simulation of the liquid's strongly deformable liquid-gas interface. The thesis includes investigations of numerous variations of the method's core parts and provides guidelines for choosing them. The validity and robustness of the developed approach are demonstrated by presenting the first particle-resolved numerical simulations of a fascinating example of a liquid-gas-solid flow from nature: upstream-migrating antidunes. The simulations accurately reproduce laboratory experiments from the literature regarding antidunes' amplitude, wavelength, and celerity. The developed model is thus a tool to generate data of yet unmatched fidelity, which opens new research perspectives for detailed studies of applications involving liquid-gas-solid flows.weiterlesen
