People, Population Change and Policies

Lessons from the Population Policy Acceptance Study

Produktform: Medienkombination

This two-volume work presents social cohesion and demographic challenges that are associated with low birth rates and population ageing. It does so from the perspective of citizens and key policy actors. The work analyses peoples’ attitudes about demographic trends and expectations towards private networks and public policies. It places these in the societal context of national specificities in the fourteen countries and regards them as part of the dynamics of the European integration process. Volume 1: Family Change Volume 1 focuses on research findings related to family issues. Its main topics are: attitudes towards family and family change, value of children, fertility intentions, and views on work-family-balance. Particular attention is given to the acceptance of and expectations about family-policies. Additionally, the reader finds methodological and theoretical chapters and learns about the background of the DIALOG project. The methodological part provides the reader with a detailed description of opportunities to analyse the Population Policy Acceptance Study database (the database is attached on CD-Rom in Volume 2). Volume 2: Demographic Knowledge – Gender – Ageing Volume 2 focuses on research findings related to general knowledge of people concerning demographic developments, gender issues, and ageing. In addition, it presents the results of a Delphi-Study on the views of key policy actors in the area of demographic developments. The volume concludes with policy implications of the findings, and a reflected overview of all results collected in the two volumes of this work. The book includes a CD-Rom with the methodological guidelines and the international database on about 34000 interviews conducted in Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania and Slovenia. This provides a unique opportunity for training and further analysis of national data. This book is the outcome of the DIALOG research project, funded by the European Commission under the 5th Framework Programme.weiterlesen
