Perspectives in Mathematical and Computational Music Theory
Produktform: E-Buch Text Elektronisches Buch in proprietärem
Mathematical and computational music
theory is a recent branch of research which enhances the
traditional view of music theory by mathematical conceptualization
and computer modelling. This approach reveals that music is an
extremely complex phenomenon, which requires the most powerful and
advanced mathematical theories and computational tools, and
thereby it also leads to results and questions of general
musicological interest.
This book presents a collection of papers from three International
Seminars on Mathematical and Computational Music Theory in Mexico
City (2000), Sauen (2001), and Zürich (2002), which were organized
by the editors. The topics include mathematical metalanguage
issues, specific levels of metric, melodic and harmonic analysis,
and advanced models of musical performance, as well an software
design and data management for experimental research. The
interconnections of several papers reflect the intense
collaboration and exchange of ideas in this field. Complementing
introductory articles help the reader obtain a broader picture of
this new and highly interdisciplinary research field.
