Punctuated Peace in Nigeria’s Oil Region
Oil Insurgency and the Challenges of Post-Conflict Peacebuilding
Produktform: Buch / Einband - fest (Hardcover)
This book examines the dynamics of post-conflict, protracted peacebuilding in Nigeria’s oil region. Based on 8 months of ethnographic fieldwork in Nigeria, it draws on in-depth interviews with former insurgents and non-insurgents, complemented by a survey, to offer a conceptual understanding of post-conflict transformations in the oil region, in both low conflict and high conflict states. It provides the first well-researched, thorough and empirically rich account of a relatively understudied facet of the Niger Delta peace process. Peace in Nigeria’s oil region is an essential condition for national security which makes it an important topic. This book also raises new questions about the effectiveness of disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration programs as a vehicle for peacebuilding in the oil region. It argues that engaging with “The Avengers” is an important aspect of understanding contemporary conflict, insurgencies and everyday violence. This book sits at the intersection of peace and conflict studies, development studies, political science, criminology, and African studies. weiterlesen
