Rediscovering Righteousness in Romans

Personified dikaiosyne within Metaphoric and Narratorial Settings

Produktform: Buch / Einband - flex.(Paperback)

This book is a sustained investigation of the interpretation of righteousness (δι αιοσύνη) in Romans as it undergoes personification within a metaphoric and narratorial setting. Why does the Apostle Paul personify righteousness and sin in Romans 6 and 9? And does he use this literary trope elsewhere in the Epistle to the Romans? In this study David J. Southall explores Pauline personification and makes the case that the Apostle uses the trope as a mode of character invention. Thus in Romans 6 "Righteousness" is the slave master and in Romans 9:30-33 he is a character running in a footrace. The author then goes on to assert that personified "Righteousness", and particularly the personified "Righteousness of God" becomes Paul's way of talking about Christ in passages which are rich in metaphor and narrative.weiterlesen
