This book presents for the first time photographs taken by the Swedish freejazz pioneer Sven-Åke Jo-hansson during his concert tours in the 1960s and 1970s. Cityscapes and landscapes, snapshots of everyday life, portraits of friends, fellow musicians and family are recorded as if in passing here, providing insights into an artist's life ‘on the road’. Autobiographical and historical moments merge into a subtle artistic self-positioning. As in his music, Johansson brings seemingly insignificant details and situations into focus and elicits unexpected poetic dimensions from them.
