These proceedings contain the papers associated with keynote and regular talks presented at the 13th Mechatronics Forum, International Conference, September 17-19, 2012, Linz, Austria. The proceedings are printed in three volumes. The Mechatronics International Conference series represents the oldest, still existing series of international scientific meetings on mechatronics as a whole. The proceedings reflect the diversity of research and teaching activities devoted to mechatronics and represent a comprehensive indication of current research topics and methods pursued at various places around the world, in both, science and in different industrial domains. This 13th Conference, like its predecessors, has a strong flavour of the local organizing institutions, the Johannes Kepler University and the Austrian Center of Competence in Mechatronics.
