The Age of the Succubus

Produktform: Buch / Einband - fest (Hardcover)

A word from the author, Nona Limmen: "My first photography book The Age of the Succubus is almost here! This book is a tribute to the old beliefs, to female empowerment and the collective unconscious. The inspiration behind the title and theme? Lilith. There are so many legends and stories around this mystical character. She’s been an inspiration to me for years, and has subconsciously played a huge role in my creative work. She rebelled against being subservient, not out of defensiveness, but out of a place of self-worth. Lilith became the archetype of the deviant woman -a scapegoat for the inexplicable wrongs of the world; the original Succubus. The protagonists in this book all show similarities with the Succubus. They are creatures born of local folk tales, my personal experiences & dreams, readings and memories. They represent what I have always wanted to be; independent, courageous, unapologetic, sexual, and wild, refusing to conform to the mold of appearance and behaviour expected of them. The book itself will contain a collection of work I've created over the last nine years. My vision for this photo book is to create a statement that will challenge, trigger, and inspire the reader to help them discover paths to unbridled freedom and strength, to overcome limitations, and to find comfort in darkness. There are still many stories left untold, and many more realms of menace, mystery and magic to explore. I hope you join me in this adventure, and enjoy what I have prepared for you during lockdown" Her greatest inspirations are fairytales, folklore, and ghost stories. The works of Edgar Allan Poe, H.P. Lovecraft, the Brothers Grimm, Shirley Jackson, Angela Carter, and many classic gothic works of fiction, such as Dracula and Frankenstein have always stirred her imagination. Her greatest artistic influences are artists such as Arthur Rackham, Ida Rentoul Outhwaite, Maurice Sendak, Edward Gorey, Edmund Dulac, Kay Nielsen, Harry Clarke, Dorothy Lathrop, John Bauer, Jennie Harbour, Aubrey Beardsley, Yoshitaka Amano, Marjorie Miller, Alphonse Mucha, Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, and John William Waterhouse, as well as animators or directors: Don Bluth, Hayao Miyazaki, Sylvain Chomet, Tim Burton, Henry Selick, and Guillermo Del Toro. Abigail’s work has been shown extensively throughout America, from NYC to Los Angeles, as well as galleries in London, Paris, and Madrid. Her illustrations have been featured in various publications including ImagineFX, Clip Studio, Spectrum Fantastic Art, Art Fundamentals, The Graphic Canon of Children’s Literature, Rue Morgue, and Digital Artist. She’s worked with DC/Vertigo, DC kids, Universal, Dark Horse, Image, IDW, Titan Comics, Pelican Books, SYFY, and Sideshow Collectibles. Her fully-illustrated picture book, The Cats of Ulthar by H.P. Lovecraft was released in November of 2016, and that same year she teamed up with Universal Pictures and Desert Owl Games to create The Huntsman: Winter’s Curse, the companion game to The Huntsman feature film. Abigail’s tarot deck with author Sasha Graham, The Dark Wood Tarot, was released June 2020, and her latest tarot deck with author Minerva Siegel, The Nightmare Before Christmas Tarot Deck & Guidebook was released in September 2020. She is currently working as a character designer at Netflix Animation. She resides in Turin, Italy with her husband, Davide. About the book: Crimson is a 297 x 210 mm book with 248 pages of content.
